1. It's gonna be tough. Tougher than you thought.
Sure we can have some lucky breaks, but if you want continued success you've got to put in the hard work. That means constantly getting yourself out there to garner to a larger audience.
Jam nights, open mics, joining bands with music you've never heard of, music social gatherings. It's a ton of work, and it's worth it.
2. It's not what you know, but who you know.
This line is a cliche for a reason, and ties directly to our first point. I've gone through the rabbit hole of obsessively studying music but at the end of the day, I want to be heard and make music with others. So I had to step out of the comfort zone doing things that once frightened me - I've since met many many wonderful talented musicians that continue to push each other in a way I'd never imagine, Get out there!
3. Don't get burnt out
Finally, music is meant to be fun. Doing the abovementioned can suck the fun right out of some people, so be sure to balance it. You don't have to be slinging it every night! I personally delve in multiple projects, tons of side projects to expand my soundscape. Trying out different instruments to appreciate the beauty of it all, songwriting etc. Many ways to express yourself musically, and it comes together at the end.
Good luck gunslinger!
